An author from South Tyneside is getting set to release his latest book on the history of the town.
Paul Perry, from Jarrow, has just finished his latest work – called Jarrow From Old Photographs – which covers key historical moments in the area through an array of images.
The book will be the father-of-two’s 18th historical book, featuring many photographs from his own collection and accompanied by the history behind the image.
The 69-year-old’s book, which is published by Amberley, was finished in six weeks – a feat that Mr Perry, of Raby Gardens, Jarrow says he is proud of. He said: “I started collecting old photographs in 1966 and have collected thousands of photographs in that time.
“Twenty years ago I was asked to write my first book about Jarrow and thought that I would give it a try.
“Since then the books I have written have sold tremendously well and I have been published by five or six different publishers over the last few years.
“The book is a collection of photographs with captions which include all of the important things that have happened in Jarrow, such as Bede and the Jarrow Crusade. I couldn’t write a book about the town without mentioning those.
“The book spans 100 years from 1880 to 1970 and 1980.
“I am quite proud of it as I managed to do it in such a short space of time.”
The book will be available in major bookstores and Amazon on July 15.
Mr Perry is now working on his next book on Tyneside.
