Jarrow care home chef in line for national honours

A care home chef from Jarrow is getting set to cook up a storm in the hope of winning a national competition.

Ian Michelmore from Anchor’s Palmersdene Care Home, has been nominated for the Chef of the Year award in Anchor’s annual competition.

He has been shortlisted along with seven others from Anchor care homes across the country, who will go head-to-head in a cook-off challenge in the hope of taking home the title.

The challenge will be judged by Michelin Star chef Tom Shepherd, who will oversee the nominees as they cook and prepare a two course meal of their choice.

Tom, who heads up the kitchen at Adam’s in Birmingham, will then choose the overall winner at the final judging day on Tuesday, September 4, at University College, Birmingham.

Palmersdene home manager, Maureen McCullough said: ‘I am really pleased Ian has been shortlisted.

“He does a brilliant job here at Palmersdene, no job too small, whether it’s a birthday cake or a celebratory dinner, his presentation is outstanding making you want to eat all dishes he prepares.

“The resident’s favourite dish of his is Sunday lunch with all the trimmings.

“Ian is very person centred with our customers - he is loved by them along with our staff for his happy personality.”
