The online showroom will promote the companies growing portfolio of fires and fireplaces.

This will include product specifications, the selection of finishes available as well as hearth and lighting options.

Mark Hunter, head of marketing said: “We’re excited to launch the new Be Modern Heating website.

“We’re confident that this site will ensure customers’ ethos and will play a key role in helping the business to drive new products and inform our customers.”

As the use of smartphones become more prominent, it is essential that our customers are able to view our products quickly and identify their nearest retailer easily whilst on the go.”

Be Modern is an independent manufacturer of fires, fire places, stoves, bathroom furniture and bedroom furniture.

The company has been established for more than 50 years and used to be based on Western Approach, South Shields, until it moved to a new base in Jarrow.

It is hoped the latest addition to the company’s website will help to enhance and streamline the user’s experience with access via desktop and mobile platforms.

Mr Hunter added: “As the use of smartphones becomes more prominent, it is essential that our customers are able to view our products quickly and identify their nearest retailer easily whilst on the go.”

Be Modern started as a business venture in 1963 on a 5,000 sq ft factory in Sunderland and was originally known as Modern Trends, employing just five staff. The assumption in 1963 was that high levels of pollution would do away with the fireplace.

However, company bosses believed in the ethos that the “hearth was a focus for family life” – and fireplaces still remain a big seller to this day.

The company, which became Be Modern in 1964, placed an original emphasis on timber fire surrounds with an ornate period look, but has extended its output to include marble to appeal to contemporary tastes.

Expansion in recent years has included buying the design and product rights of marble and timber fireplace company Elgin & Hall.
