The centre provides a haven for young children, single mothers and their children, by providing an education, school meals and medical assistance.

They also learn practical skills like baking, sewing and using computers.

Club chairman John Topping said: “The response we’ve had from the parents and the players at the club for the appeal has been brilliant.

“As well as strips, we have also had donations of clothing which we have packed up and send away.

“It is such a worthwhile cause and goes to show when we are finished with them, these young kids are so grateful for them.

“And they love their football, so we know how much the shirts mean to them.

“We have had pictures sent back to us before, but is the first time we have seen someone wearing the Jarrow Football Club top.

“It’s great for our young players to see and it’s a great feeling seeing the kids enjoying the kits.”

The club based at Clegwell and Hedworthfield Community Centres has taken part in donating kits and clothing for the past three years, however, this is the first time one of the recepients of their generosity has been captured on camera.

Mr Topping added: “It’s just brilliant that a local club has been able to get involved in such a fantastic cause which helps so many children.”

Jarrow Football Club has launched its new tots sessions at Hedworthfield CA on Sundays.

They run from 10am until 11am for youngsters aged from four to six year old.
