A house in Jarrow had a lucky escape today when a tree in the grounds of the property next door was blown down by Storm Desmond.
The tree in the garden in Field Terrace snapped at about 10am as the North East continued to be battered by the fiercest storm of the winter so far.
Large branches were sent crashing onto the garden wall between the properties, narrowly missing the house next door.
Watch manager Trevor Smith from Jarrow fire station said: “It has blown three or four meters from its original position, having snapped in the wind. and has come to rest against a house.
“There is a little bit of damage to the perimeter wall.
“If anyone had been walking past, it could have been very serious. We will be working with the council for its removal.”
