Jarrow lights switched on by Mayor

Families in Jarrow came together for a community celebration of the town's festive illuminations.

A crowd gathered outside Jarrow Town Hall last night to see the Mayor and Mayoress of South Tyneside, Coun Alan Smith and Coun Moira Smith, perform the official switch-on of Jarrow’s Christmas light displays.

The event included yuletide carols from St Bede’s RC Primary School choir and The North East Brass Ensemble.

The Mayor said: “It was a pleasure for the Mayoress and I to perform the switch-on in Jarrow. The Town Hall and Jarrow’s colourful light displays always look splendid.

“I was delighted to see so many families turn out to enjoy the evening’s festivities.”

On Monday the Mayor and Mayoress will perform the official switch-on of Hebburn’s festive lights in Fountain Park, from 4pm to 5pm.
