JARROW MP Stephen Hepburn paid a visit to a local bookies to throw his weight behind a campaign to help gambling addicts.
Mr Hepburn met staff at William Hill’s shop in Fellgate Avenue, Hedworth, to hear what support the firm provides to people who have gambling addictions.
The Jarrow MP met with Rali Vasilovska, the firm’s public affairs co-ordinator, manager Claire Hunter, deputy manager Angela Walton and district operations manager Sharon Mullen.
Mr Hepburn said: “It was a pleasure to learn more about the issues affecting the betting industry.
“We talked about how they encourage and support responsible gambling and the work they do. I wish them well for the future.”
Ms Vasilovska added: “We really appreciate that Stephen took time to find out more about the steps the betting industry has taken in the past few months, to promote responsible gambling.
“We operate in 2,300 communities throughout the UK, employing 13,000 people. We will continue operating with social responsibility at the heart of our business.”
