Jarrow panto gets set for lift off with sparkling performance of Cinderella

A classic fairytale is being brought to life pantomime style with the help of a Jarrow-based theatre school.

The Lee James Theatre School will be taking to the stage of the town’s civic hall in Ellison Street, Jarrow, to entertain audiences from Thursday with Cinderella.

They will be performing their own rendition of the classic rags to riches love story which promises to be full of laughter and fun for all the family.

The show has been put together by Lee James who will also be making a return to the stage playing the wicked step-mother.

Lee, who first set up his school four years ago said: “Everyone is really looking forward to putting on the show and have been working really hard in the rehearsals to make sure our audiences have an entertaining night - no matter their age.

“Everything has been going really well and we also have a life size magical carriage and we are also using CGI within the show.

“Our last panto was Peter Pan and it was a sell-out and the shows this year are not far from being sold out too.”

The theatre school has been running for four years and has around 40 pupils. Lee has also teamed up with dance school NU dance run by Rachel Jackson.

Lee added: “The school is going really well, it is helping to boost the confidence of so many young people and helping to give them so many opportunities in theatre and drama.”

All props and costumes from the night have been supplied and created by the theatre school.

Cinderella will be performed at Jarrow Civic Theatre on Thursday, Friday and Saturday night, starting at 7pm with a matinee on Saturday at 2pm.
