A Jarrow pub which found national fame for its striking World Cup decorations is expecting hundreds to turn out to cheer on England in tonight’s World Cup semi-final.

The Robin pub in Roman Road is covered in 300 flags pinned to the outside of the building attracting hordes of punters during this summer’s World Cup fever.

Now as England get set to play Croatia kicking off at 7pm tonight, staff at the pub are sending their best wishes to the squad.

Deputy manager Clare McFall said: “We are really excited for tonight’s match.

“The atmosphere so far has been amazing so we all love working match days.

“We are non-stop, but it is enjoyable as everyone is enjoying the match.

“For the last match we had 300 people here and it was amazing, so we are expecting between 300-400 people here tonight.

“We have not seen anything like it for years and we think the flags have helped make us the busiest pub in Jarrow.”

The pub’s incredible decorations took three weeks to put up with the use of specialist scaffolding and this week they’re keeping the celebratory feeling going with a range of World Cup-themed drink offers.

Punters will be able to watch the match on large projector screens inside and outside the pub.
