Hebburn comic Jason Cook is out to prove he’s as smart as he is funny when he appears on Celebrity Mastermind.
The comedian and creator of BBC sitcom Hebburn said he was delighted to be asked to go on the celebrity special of the famous quiz show which measures people’s general knowledge and how much they know about a subject of their choice.

The 42-year-old chose fellow comedian Billy Connolly as his specialist subject.
Jason, from Hebburn, said: “I’ve always loved the show. Everyone likes trying to answer the questions and seeing if they know something the contestant doesn’t, so I was delighted when they asked me to go on it.”
Jason appeared on the show in an attempt to raise cash for charity the British Thyroid Foundation.
He said: “I chose Billy Connolly because he’s my hero and he’s the reason I got into comedy. I love the way he tells stories rather than just one-liners.
“I’m hoping that he’ll find out I was on the show answering questions about him and want to be my friend.
“I already knew a lot but I really did my research. I even listened to his autobiography on tape while I was driving down to the recording. I got stuck in traffic, but it was good because I learned more.
“I didn’t really have time to study for the general knowledge part though.
“I’m quite good at pub quizzes, though, so I decided to just wing it.”
Jason said it was frightening being on the show but that he enjoyed it.
He said: “I was really nervous and it was really weird sitting in that chair.
“John Humphrys was an absolute delight too. It’s rare that you meet someone in showbusiness who is that nice, but he was, and really funny.”
Tune in to BBC One at 7.30pm on Monday to see how Jason did on the show.
