Jeremy Corbyn has revealed his north east family background during a visit to Sunderland.
The Labour leader was on Wearside on Thursday night to meet party members.
And during a speech at Sunderland's Quayside Exchange he told of how his late father David Benjamin Corbyn, an electrical engineer, was born in East Boldon in 1915.
He told the audience that he was aware that the north east was rich in skilled workers, adding: "I know that because my dad told me and he was born in East Boldon!"
Mr Corbyn's father was born in East Boldon as his grandfather Benjamin, who later became a solicitor, had been working up here. The family later moved to Acton in the 1930s.
