Karl Darlow's 'annoyed' by THAT Eden Hazard penalty in Newcastle's defeat to Chelsea

Newcastle United were beaten 3-1 by Chelsea at Stamford Bridge yesterday.

Hazard – who had opened the scoring – netted Chelsea's third goal from the spot after Matt Ritchie brought down Victor Moses.

The midfielder chipped Darlow, who was making only his second Premier League start of the season.

"The chip annoyed me a little bit," said Darlow. "I’d be lying if I said it didn't, but it's a great penalty."

Hazard said he "instinctively" chipped Darlow, who returned to the starting XI against West Bromwich Albion on Tuesday night.

"When I take the ball in my hands, it's instinct," said Hazard.

"I just want to do this. I want the goalkeeper to move, because if he doesn't, I'm in trouble."

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte added: "The most important thing for me is score the penalty, and then you can decide what you want and how you want to kick."

Newcastle took the lead through a 12th-minute Dwight Gayle goal.

However, Hazard equalised nine minutes later and Alvaro Morata netted a second goal later in the first half.

"I think the game plan was to stay in the game as long as we could,” said Darlow.

“At half time, when we were 2-1 down, we wanted to get to 80 minuets and nick something.

“They're a good side though. We keep battling on.

"There are positives. We've gone to Manchester United and Chelsea and done all right in spells but you get punished at this level. We have to keep improving."
