Ant shifted one million kilograms in weight as he embarked upon world record kettlebell attempts.

The owner of South Tyneside Kettlebells did it to raise cash for causes including the Freeman Hospital’s Children’s Heart Unit and the Great North Children’s Hospital.

His excellent efforts impressed the judges of the 2017 Best of South Tyneside Awards but it meant Ant had to do some more lifting - this time of the trophy after being chosen as the Role Model of the Year.

He’s now urging people to nominate candidates for this year’s competition which has just got under way.

He said: “People don’t do what they do for recognition but it is nice when you are nominated.”

He raised just under £5,000 for charity and was amazed to be chosen as a Best of South Tyneside winner.

He added: “The evening was lovely and it was nice to be nominated.”

You have plenty of time to out forward the names of those you want to see in the running.

Once we pass the competition deadline, a panel of judges will meet to draw up the shortlist.

Then it’s on to the grand finale at the Roker Hotel where we will be revealing the winners on Wednesday, September 19.
