The only way was up as scores of families paid a flying visit to Souter Lighthouse to make an annual kite festival a soaraway success.
The skies were filled with a rainbow of colours as seasoned kite fliers and newcomers alike turned out for a fun-packed weekend.
From snakes and dragons to ladybirds and Angry Birds, kite of all shapes, sizes, colours and designs got off the ground at the Whitburn visitor attraction both today and on Saturday.
The event was organised by the North East Kite Fliers, who were delighted the event proved a big hit.
Duncan Brown, a member of North East Kite Fliers, said: “The weekend has gone really well.
“We have had fliers come from Bristol and Yorkshire as well as from all over the North East.
