Anthony Joshua is on his way to South Shields after being confirmed as the latest boxing champ to appear at the Hedworth Hall.

Olympic gold medallist Anthony Joshua is the latest sporting star who will appear at the Hedworth Hall in Dean Road - and he could be world champion by then

His appearance, on Friday April 15, will come a week after the 26-year-old’s fight against Charles Martin for the IBF world heavyweight title. His visit follows in the footsteps of some of the world’s boxing greats who have also visited the South Shields venue, including Sugar Ray and Larry Holmes.

The Watford-born boxer is the current Commonwealth, British and WBC International heavyweight champion.

“And the timing couldn’t be better. The event is a week after he will take on Charles Martin for the IBF world heavyweight title.

“So we could be welcoming the latest world champion to our venue.

“Since the announcement was made the phones have not stopped ringing with people wanting to book tickets - we anticipate the night to be a sell-out.”
