A group of ladies have put their fundraising skills into action to help boost the funds of a cancer charity.
The Lavender Lasses hosted ‘The Lavender Lash Up’ at the Hedworth Hall in Dean Road, South Shields.
The event, sponsored by David Joseph, The Health Insurance Group, featured a disco and a photo booth, and raised £2,867.45 for CRUK (Cancer Research UK).
All of the raffle prizes had been donated by local and regional businesses, as well as friends and family.
The Lavender Ladies fundraising group has been running for the past 80 years.
Last month a civic reception was held in honour of the group to mark the occasion at Jarrow Town Hall.
Lavender Lady Hilary Jago said: “We have previously raised money for breast cancer research after my best friend Janet Bruce was diagnosed in October 2013, after surgery and treatment she is now fit and well and part of our team.
“Over the past year, several of the lasses have had family members diagnosed with various cancers so we decided to switch our efforts to the all encompassing CRUK.
“So far we have held a collection at The Westovians pantomime, helped with the sale of Unity Bands on World Cancer Day and helped out at two coffee mornings.”
The group is currently organising a sponsored cycle challenge which will take riders on a 56-mile route from South Shields to Consett and back again, on Sunday May 7. So fare 20 cyclists have signed up.
The ladies are also planning to host another fundraising party and are currently looking for a new sponsor for the event.
