The racecourse has announced that the legendary actor, host and broadcaster will be a special guest at the annual event, where he will host a live DJ set.

Taking place on Thursday, August 31, the raceday is set to kick off at 3pm with the first race set to start at 5pm.

The event will include seven live races, best dressed ladies and gents competitions and live entertainment after racing with a superb DJ set from Craig Charles Funk & Soul Show.

Craig said: “I am really looking forward to DJ’ing at Sedgefield Racecourse as I know their audience is a fun and up for it crowd.

"It’s a great concept – a day at the races and then a night dancing to the great tunes I will be playing. See you there!”

Craig is one of UK’s most beloved characters, known for his roles in Robot Wars, Red Dwarf and Coronation Street.

He has become one of the UK’s most established faces, after ten years of broadcasting on BBC 6 Music and now also part of the Radio 2 Saturday night output with his House Party Show, he is also one of the UK’s most renounced radio DJ’s.

The Craig Charles Funk and Soul Show is now a brand in its own right with Craig’s extensive music knowledge bringing him an authority and passion to every show.

With its 6 Music Saturday night broadcast, with its assortment of classic gems and emerging artists, Craig has garnered global support as one of the world’s foremost Funk and Soul commentators, DJ’s and promoter of new music.

As a DJ, Craig Charles has captivated crowds throughout the UK – the Maestro of funk has played at numerous festivals such as, Love Box, Park Life, Festival No 6, Wychwood Festival, Common People and Mostly Jazz Funk & Soul festival to name but a few.

Highlighting 2016, Craig played to over 10,000 people at the world-famous Arcadia and Shangri-La stage in Glastonbury.
