Letter of the week: 'I'm a Newcastle fan and even I want Sunderland to bounce back'

Sunderland fans console each other after their relegation to League One was confirmed.

I hope and pray they bounce back to where they belong.

Even though I’m a ‘black ‘n’ whiter’ it’s no difference to me. I have a lot of friends from Sunderland.

Yes, I know the banter, but fair’s fair.

My friend Bruce, who I went to school with in a tough part of the west end of Newcastle was a lifelong Sunderland supporter.

I asked him one day about it and he said my grandad came from Seaham Harbour and he took Bruce to all the games at Roker Park when he was a kid. We worked together and played together, him in red and white and me in black and white.

Just hope Sunderland pull through this.
