Letter of the week: 'We are lucky to have the NHS here on South Tyneside'

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the North East Ambulance Service and South Tyneside Hospital for caring for me during my recent period of ill health.

I was admitted with a high irregular heartbeat and a chest infection on Monday, February 26.

On that day my daughter rang 111 describing my symptoms.

The operator immediately called for an ambulance, which attended within a matter of minutes.

The paramedics diagnosed a high irregular heartbeat and took me to South Tyneside Hospital straight away.

Throughout that time their kind and compassionate nature put my mind at rest. The hospital diagnosed a chest infection and irregular heartbeat and prescribed medication to improve my condition.

I would like to thank the nurses and doctors of Emergency Assessment Unit and Ward 2 for their outstanding care during my stay in hospital.

Special mention must also be made to Dr Wiseman who treated me with great respect and understanding.

It is vital that we appreciate all of those who work in the Health Service.

We are lucky to have the NHS and I am a very grateful recipient of its expert care.
