Children can build their own bird house and enjoy outdoor learning during a half-term holiday event.
South Tyneside education centre West Boldon Lodge will be staging art and crafts activities at the Autumn Fun Day, which runs from 10am to noon, and 1pm to 3pm, on Monday, October 26.
Two events the following day – a taster session of the lodge’s regular Forest Playgroup scheme and a free family Forest School afternoon – will allow grown-ups and children to get back to nature.
The taster group for toddlers and children aged one to five, features minibeast hunts, a mud kitchen and scavenger hunts, and runs from 10am to noon, at £6 per child.
At the Friday Forest School sessions the under-5s and their parents can explore the centre’s extensive habitat and enjoy play time around a campfire.
The free Forest School event, from 1pm to 4pm for those aged one to five, encourages children to learn about the outdoors with their mums and dads.
Places to all events are limited and must be booked by calling 0191 536 4873 or by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org
West Boldon Lodge is operated by communities’ charity Groundwork South Tyneside and Newcastle (STAN) and is just off the A184 Newcastle Road and opposite The Quadrus Centre, West Boldon.
Rebecca Maw, Groundwork STAN’s Communities Manager, said: “These sessions are great for entertaining the kids during the holidays and at the same time helping them to learn new things.
“It’s a lovely time of year and the lodge is a vibrant and exciting place to be for children and adults alike. “
“There’s lots going and these sessions allow mums and dads to get out and about with their children and to really get a taste of nature and the outdoors.”
Groundwork STAN works to create sustainable communities, specialising in training and education programmes and in the creation of ‘green’ spaces.
