The French forward has been linked with a move to to both Newcastle and Leicester City this transfer window as he seeks regular first-team football ahead of the Euro 16 tournament this summer.

However, a stumbling block over any move appears to be that Chelsea would prefer a permanenet transfer, while the player is only keen on a loan given the Blues will have a new manager in the summer.

Newcastle were keen on a loan move for the striker. The signing today of Seydou Doumbai has seen a cooling of interest in Remy, though they could make a late move after a bid for Saido Berahino failed.

Leicester had a £11.5million deal in place for 29-year-old Remy, but with the deadline for signings ticking closer, could switch their attentions to out of favour Stoke man Mame Biram Diouf.

Sunderland were also linked with a shock move for Remy today, but the Gazette understands that isn’t a goer.
