The Newcastle United defender had a spell on loan at the Championship club late last year.

But Williamson, signed six years ago from Portsmouth, was recalled amid an injury crisis at St James's Park.

The 32-year-old then succumbed to an injury himself, but he is now ready to head back to Wolves on a permanent deal.

Williamson impressed in his five loan appearances for Kenny Jackett's side.

Speaking about his time at Wolves, Williamson said: "My time at Wolves was fantastic.

"It was a good opportunity and it was a very good fit.

“I was really enjoying myself, it is a great club, players are very good – a real togetherness, and I like the manager who was fantastic – to work with him and learn from him."
