Man dies after being pulled from River Tyne

Police have been been informed a man who was pulled from the river Tyne on Friday has died.

Michael Kouache, who was 47 and from Rothbury Terrace, Heaton, was pulled from the River Tyne at around 12.25pm on Friday, March 3 afternoon.

He was taken to the Freeman Hospital where he remained in a critical and life-threatening condition. Police have been informed that sadly he died in the early hours of this morning.

Officers are continuing to carry out enquiries to establish how Mr Kouache came to be in the river and where he entered the water. He was rescued from the Tyne near Merchant's Wharf

He was last seen on Thursday evening and officers are keen to speak to anyone who saw him either Thursday night or Friday morning anytime before 12.25pm.
