Man shot by police in South Shields is named

The man who was shot by armed police in South Tyneside today has been named locally.

James Carlo Wilson, 24, was shot by officers in Frenchmans Way in Horsley Hill, South Shields.

At 1.02am police received a report of a man in possession of a handgun in the street.

Armed officers attended and made contact with the man, who is believed be Mr Wilson, previously of Whitehead Street, South Shields.

He was then shot by officers and taken to hospital.
