Man suffers slash wound to face in South Shields assault

A man has been arrested following a slash attack in South Tyneside.

It happened on Saturday afternoon in Eskdale Court in South Shields.

A 43-year-old man was assaulted and was left with a wound to his face.

He was taken to hospital but has since been discharged.

A man aged 33 arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent has been released on police bail.

A spokeswoman for Northumbria Police said: "At 4.50pm on Saturday, May 28, a 43-year-old man was assaulted at Eskdale Court, in South Shields.

"He suffered a slash wound to his face and received hospital treatment. He has since been discharged.

"A 33-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent and has been released on police bail.

"Inquiries are ongoing and any witnesses should ring Northumbria Police on 101, quoting reference number 934 280516 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
