A male has been taken to hospital with a suspected broken leg after he fell from cliffs in South Shields.
The incident sparked a response from multiple emergency services, after the casualty was spotted near Marsden Grotto by a member of the public at shortly before 7pm this evening.

Firefighters from South Shields, Hebburn and Marley Park fire stations assisted the Coastguard and South Shields Volunteer Life Brigade as well as the Hazardous Area Response Team (HEART) from the North East Ambulance Service, in the rescue.
A spokesman from Humber Coastguard said: “At 18.51 hours, we got a call from a member of the public who informed us that a male had gone over the cliffs at Marsden.
“Sunderland Coastguard Rescue Team and South Shields Volunteer Life Brigade attended and performed a rope rescue with the HEART team from the ambulance service, to get him back to the top of the cliffs and into the care of the ambulance.
“He has been taken to hospital with a suspected broken leg at just after 8.30pm. He was conscious and breathing.”
