Martin Bain: Sunderland are fortunate to have David Moyes as manager

Ellis Short brought Bain and former Everton and Manchester United boss Moyes into the club this summer after the departure of Sam Allardyce to England, albeit briefly.

Moyes was under growing pressure at the start of the season after going 10 games without a Premier League win.

But Bain says Sunderland are fortunate to have a manager as experienced as Moyes, who has since won three Premier League games to revive the club's season.

"In terms of my perspective going forward, I am thinking I am fortunate that we have a manager in David Moyes," said Bain.

"David is a club man.

"He is somebody who is keen to understand and contribute to all aspects of the football club, from top to bottom, from a football perspective.

"That is fundamental for me, it is about stability right across the board. He has vast experience.

"His experience will lend itself to guiding me, lend itself to guiding others and when you are in a situation we are in as a football club, it is not all doom and gloom but yes we have a lot to do.

"Experience is invaluable and he has that in abundance."

Sunderland will need all of that experience with funds severely limited in the January transfer window.

"I have inherited the situation and I am conscious of it. Football is sometimes about moments in time," added Bain.

"What I can do is look at the overall picture and the trends of the past to give me some guidance going forward as to what what might be wrong and what might be right.

"46 players coming and going since 2009 and only three we have made a profit on is not a statistic that anybody can be proud of.

"I am sure there are reasons for it but it is there in black and white."
