EVERY mother in South Tyneside thinks that their youngster is the cutest in the borough.
But Lauren Driver can say that for sure after her gorgeous girl, Lois Ella-Rose Smith was named as the winner of the Gazette’s Cute Kids competition.
The 11-month-old smiler gave her proud parents, Lauren and Jak Smith an early Christmas present when the family was awarded with a meal voucher for Frankie & Benny’s, a canvas print of the winning photograph and £100 in cash.
Lauren, 19, a nursery nurse at Beach Hill Nursery, in South Shields, where Lois is a pupil, said: “People always comment on Lois’ smile. We always get stopped by people who want to have a look at her and she’s always got this big cheeky grin on her face.
“She always smiles and waves at people too, especially on the bus.
“Entering the competition was something I always wanted to do since having Lois, and all my friends were entering their babies into the contest too so it was a fun thing to do together.”
The good news was also welcomed by dad Jak, 20, a sales executive, and nana Maria.
Lauren, of Warwick Road, South Shields, added: “I couldn’t believe it when I got a phone call to say I’d won. I didn’t know what to say.
“I phoned Jak and my mam, Maria, and they couldn’t believe it either but we’re all just really happy that she’s won.
“It’s good to know that everyone else thinks she’s just as cute as we do, and we’re going to celebrate by going for our meal and then spending all the money on toys for Lois.
“Every mother wants their child to win this competition and I’m just so glad that Lois did.”
