It's the local elections on Thursday, and we're giving all the candidates for South Tyneside Council the chance to say why you should vote for them.

Today it's the turn of the candidates standing in the Simonside and Rekendyke ward. Here's what they had to say:

LYNNE PROUDLOCK (LABOUR)

I’m delighted to again be asked to be the Labour Party candidate in Simonside and Rekendyke.

Much has been achieved and working with local residents is an important part of being a councillor.

That’s why I will continue to hold regular ward surgeries and publish regular newsletters.

The council continues to face unprecedented cuts imposed by the Tory Government.

We need to maintain a strong Labour council that continues to innovate and deliver excellent services in the face of austerity.

I hope that I can count on your support on May 3rd.

PETER BRISTOW (GREEN PARTY)

South Tyneside has been done a disservice by a political establishment that, facing no opposition, has become unaccountable to the people it is supposed to represent.

This cannot continue. South Tyneside deserves better.

If I’m elected on the 3rd of May the people of Simonside and Rekendyke can rest assured that their voices will be heard.

Green councillors, unlike Labour councillors, aren’t constrained by party hierarchy and are free to act in the best interests of the community by taking on board views and concerns of residents to help revitalise our town and save our vital health and social services.
