For the past two years there has been nobody to hold the council to account: nobody to make sure they do their jobs properly, nobody to make sure that they listen to what you say, no opposition whatsoever.

When faced with only one non-Labour councillor, the Labour Party know that they can do what they want even if it isn’t what you want, and that is not right.

South Tyneside is in desperate need of an opposition, and who is there to do it? The Liberal Democrats? Some Independents? No.

The local elections are on May 3.The local elections are on May 3.
The local elections are on May 3.

Only the Conservative Party can do it. Vote Conservative on May 3rd and get your voice heard again.

I was going to describe some kind of high-minded vision of what a Green controlled council would look like and what we would do, but I’m just too damn angry at the record of this council.

They have failed at every conceivable level of local government for decades. This council is only interested in itself, not the people of South Tyneside.

It’s a one party state where not one single elected person questions what they do.

Even a few Greens on the council would change things massively. This council doesn’t deserve us, South Tyneside deserves better!

NANCY MAXWELL (LABOUR PARTY)

Community is at the heart of my reason for standing as a councillor once again.

As a councillor, I have been able to ‘make the difference’ for all sections of the community.

For many years, I have been a volunteer at Hartleyburn CA taking a ‘hands on’ role as chair/trustee to ensure that residents of all ages continue to have opportunities to enjoy social, sport and educational activities in their local area.

I am now a cabinet member for voluntary sector, partnerships and co-operatives.
