Love hopefuls could meet their match of the day when a speed dating event is held at a borough football ground.
Singletons are being invited to South Shields FC’s Mariners Park, on Shaftesbury Avenue, on Thursday, March 31.
Each of those who attend will be given a dating card, with boxes for ‘ditch’, ‘date’ and ‘friend’.
After being given three minutes to have a chat, each singleton will then move on and tick whichever box applies to the person sitting opposite them.
And at the end of the night, all cards will be handed to event host Alisha Henry, who works for the football club.
She will match the cards the next day, and then text or email each entrant their matches.

And she is hopeful participants could ‘meet their match’ at Mariners Park.
Miss Henry said: “As the host of the first-ever speed dating event at Mariners Park, I am excited about the possibility of someone meeting their match at our venue.
“I can assure you that if you attend our speed dating event, you will definitely have a fun night out as you will get to meet professional, fun and interesting people.
“This is your opportunity to meet and get to know a number of people your age, in a nice and relaxed environment.
“Don’t be shy – register your place today!”
The speed dating event will start at 7.30pm, and is £5 to register. There will also be drink deals on at the club all night.
To register, call the club on 0191 454 7800 or send an email to email@example.com
It is one of a number of events to be held at the ground in the coming weeks.
St Patrick’s Day celebrations will be held on March 17, while performer Kelly Rox – who is a multi-tribute show to Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and Pink – is on the following day at 7.30pm, costing £4 a ticket.
Meanwhile, the club is looking for stall holders for an Easter fayre which will be held at the ground on March 27.
It will start at 11am, with up to 15 different craft and food stalls.
Stall holder costs are £10 a table, and interest can be registered by sending an email to firstname.lastname@example.org
