METRO passengers are being reminded of weekend line closures for the next fortnight.
The line between Heworth and Monument in Newcastle city centre will be closed for the next two weekends and a replacement bus service will be in operation.
Nexus, which owns, manages and is modernising the Tyne and Wear Metro, is carrying out a multi-million pound project to replace the tracks on the QEII Metro bridge which spans the River Tyne.
The work will mean that Metro services between Monument and Heworth will not be running on Saturday, May 2 and Sunday, May 3, and on Saturday, May 9 and Sunday, May 10.
During these weekend line closures Metro services between South Hylton and Heworth will still be in operation, but passengers will have to alight at Heworth and transfer to a replacement bus service, 900, to continue their onward journey.
Passengers are advised to allow extra time for their journeys if travelling through the affected area.
Raymond Johnstone, director of rail and infrastructure for Nexus, said: “I apologise if anyone in Sunderland is inconvenienced by the works that we have planned over the next two weekends.
“We have packed this into weekends so that the disruption to customers is kept to a minimum.
Passengers can obtain further information from www.nexus.org.uk or by calling the Nexus Customer Service Centre on 0191 20 20 747.
