Metro passengers hit by delays after train breakdown

Metro users were left facing hold ups after a train broke down on the line.

The service suffered problems from 11.40am today after the failure of a train between Pelaw and Fellgate as it headed towards South Hylton.

Nexus, which owns the service, said the train was removed from service at noon at Brockley Whins and the train was turned back towards to depot.

The passengers were asked to alight at Brockley Whins and had to wait for the next train.

This caused a 15 minute delay to Metro services heading to Sunderland.

A Metro spokesman said: “There were minor delays to services heading into Sunderland after a train had to be withdrawn from service due to a brake fault.

"We apologise for the inconvenience.”
