Metro customers have been asked to use one platform for services in both directions at one station following a points failure.

People using Hebburn have been advised platform two will be used for all services.

A spokesman for the service said: "Trains are running to all destinations but not to timetable between South Shields and Pelaw, we apologise - please leave extra time for your journey."

Yesterday, the operator said it was dealing with a points failure in the Jarrow area, which was causing delays of 30 minutes between the town and St James.
