MODEL enthusiasts have made a grand gesture towards a major North East charity.
The City of Sunderland Model Engineering Society has donated £1,000 to Kathleen Tuddenham, president of Soroptimist International Sunderland, to go towards her chosen charity, the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation.
The model society, established in 1931, meets most weekends in Roker Park and also stages special events to coincide with the Sunderland Airshow and Illuminations.
The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation, set up in 2008, raises money to help research into finding effective ways to detect and treat cancer at the earliest possible stage.
Kathleen said: “On behalf of all members of Soroptimist International Sunderland, I express grateful thanks and appreciation for the very kind donation from the City of Sunderland Model Engineering Society, which I am sure will help present and future sufferers to overcome this terrible disease.”
