The event now in its 10th year helps to raise vital funds for the hospice which cares for people affected by a life limiting illness.

Ahead of the run, those taking part were entertained with singing by youngsters West Park School and music by Higham Disco.

Organiser Janice Forbes said: “This is the ninth run I’ve been a part of organising and it’s amazing people are still coming out and taking part. We have around 150-160 people taking part this year which is an increase on last year’s numbers.

“I think it just helps to get everyone into the festive mood and it’s something the whole family can get involved in.

“We have been sponsored by Bristol Street Motors this year which means all the money raised will go to the hospice.

“We’re hoping the run will help us raise £5,000.”

Following a mass countdown, the run was officially started by Hartlepool United mascot H’Angus the monkey.

Cillian Tynan, seven, was taking part with his family. Despite feeling a little tired towards the end, he managed to cross the finishing line and collect his medal.

He said: “It was fun. But I am a little bit tired now.”

His aunt Kelly Mitchell said: “I think it’s brilliant way to raise money for the Hospice.”

Hi mum Kimberly Tynan added: “It’s the first time we’ve taken part and we’ve all enjoyed it.”
