Motorists warned of delays near Tyne Tunnel after two-vehicle crash

Northumbria Police is warning drivers to “remain patient” after a two-vehicle crash on the approach to the Tyne Tunnel.

At around 8.10am on Thursday, January 16, Northumbria Police was called with reports of a crash on the northbound carriageway of the A19 causing delays to morning rush-hour traffic.

Police and traffic officers were sent to the scene of a two-vehicle crash on the incident, which took place on the approach to the Tyne Tunnel near South Shields.

North East Live Traffic confirmed via its Twitter account that the carriageway had been blocked due to the incident.

Northumbria Police confirmed that traffic is continuing to flow slowly, subject to ongoing delays.

A spokesman for Northumbria Police added: “There are not any reports of anyone being injured but it is causing some congestion at the tunnel.

“Traffic is moving in the area and drivers in the area are asked to remain patient.”
