Mourners asked to wear football shirts for Ronnie Howard's funeral

People mourning the loss of South Tyneside dad Ronnie Howard are asked to wear football shirts to his funeral next week.

Police launched a murder investigation after 'gentle giant' Ronnie, 31, died after an incident at the Prince Edward pub at The Nook, in South Shields on May 4.

The funeral will take place at South Shields Crematorium at 2,30pm, on Thursday, June 2.

His family have requested that mourners wear football tops or casual wear, in tribute to Ronnie, who was a devoted Newcastle United supporter.

Seven men were arrested in connection with the incident and five have appeared in court charged with offences. One of them is accused of murder and the remaining four, of affray and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
