A MOTHER and daughter team have passed the £30,000 mark in their bid to support South Tyneside causes.

Cheryl McDonald and Lynne Davis only started Community Corner in Jarrow in March last year but they have already achieved huge results.

“It is overwhelming that people have nominated us for an award”

They raise funds to help individuals and groups which need a financial boost, and they’ve achieved that and so much more.

Their efforts have made such an impression on the community, numerous people have nominated Community Corner for an honour in this year’s Best of South Tyneside Awards.

It left a stunned Cheryl to say: “That is so lovely of them. I didn’t expect anything like that.

“It is overwhelming and so nice for people to do this.

“I want to thank everyone so much.”

And she revealed the community shop has now topped the £30,000 mark of funds raised.

Daughter Cheryl and mum Lynne take in donated items to sell, with money from sales being distributed to those who need it.

“Already the pair, who give their time for free, have helped local charities Options and Cancer Connections, playgroups and helped to fund sessions for a young football team in need of somewhere warm to play during the winter.

This week, the shop was supporting the South Shields Volunteer Life Guards, while later this month, they will back the Customs House in South Shields.

We want many more nominations between now and the deadline of Friday, April 10.
