Angela Hamilton decided to mark her 50th year with a series of fundraising events for The Charlie Cookson Foundation and celebrated the day itself with a party at Club Del Mar in South Shields in a bid to raise funds.

Angela, from South Shields, decided to hold the party as one of 50 things she has lined up this year to mark the occasion and raise around £5,000 for the charity that supports the families of seriously ill children.

The charity was set up by parents Chris and Sarah Cookson in memory of their son Charlie who passed away at just two years old.

Angela said she was thrilled with the success of the night which saw family and friends come along to the venue, donated by club owner Kerry Katopodis.

Newcastle City Council worker Angela, who is living with MS, said: “My elder sister died not long before I was born and I know how difficult that loss can be but Sarah and Chris Cookson have turned their devastating loss into something so positive.
“They are truly inspirational and I am honoured to have met them and to be able to support the work they do. I wanted my birthday to be about more than me so decided to turn it into a charity fundraiser and I can’t believe the amount of support I have had to make it happen.”

On the night food was donated by Domino’s Pizza while DJ Danny Herrera entertained party goers, including South Shields MP Emma Lewell-Buck.

Mrs Cookson said: “We are thrilled that Angela has arranged this amazing event to help raise vital funds for CCF.
“There are so many families in need of our financial support, these parents live a life of such worry and heartache, like we did.
“To be able to relieve them of their financial worries for a period of three months is life changing for them.”
