This week celebrates The Society for Storytelling's 16th annual National Storytelling Week, which will run until Saturday.

Its aim is to promote the oral tradition of storytelling, with events planned up and down the country in theatres, museums, schools and clubs - and it's not just for the children.

Story lovers of all ages are welcome to take part in the Society's initiative, which launched on January 30, and share their favourite tales that they've been told, or tell themselves, in their families.

Which stories do you remember from childhood? Were they read to you from a book, or thought up by a relative?

Do you, or do your children, have a favourite story? Have you ever made up a story of your own?

Whatever your memories of reading and stories are, celebrate them this week as part of a campaign dedicated to keeping storytelling alive.
