New appeal for witnesses after alleged air gun attack on elderly woman

Police have renewed their appeal for witnesses after an elderly woman was injured by an air weapon in South Shields.

The incident happened at about 8.40am on Sunday, April 10, in Erskine Road.

The woman was taken to hospital for treatment for her injuries, and has since been released and is recovering at home.

Police believe a potential witness, a man aged approximately 70, was on Erskine Road at the time of the offence.

He is described as white with a stocky build, wearing brown trousers and a brown coat.

Police are asking for this man to come forward and speak to officers as he may have information which could assist officers with their inquiries.

Police would also like to speak to anyone else who was in the area at the relevant time who has not yet come forward as they also may have witnessed the incident.

Two men, aged 20 and 22 years, have been arrested in connection with the incident and are on bail pending further enquiries.
