New jobs created in South Tyneside as BT announces plans to recruit

About 50 jobs have been created in South Shields after BT announced its intention to recruit more staff.

The new employees will be based at the BT building on Harton Quay, and will mainly work in sales and customer service roles.

It is part of plans from BT to employ 1,000 new contact centre staff in the UK.

Libby Barr, managing director of customer care at BT Consumer, said: “This latest recruitment is part of our commitment to provide the best possible service for our customers.

“By the end of this year, BT Consumer will answer more than 80% of its customers’ calls in the UK and this means we need more people in our UK contact centres.

Successful applicants will answer calls and talk to customers from across the country, providing them with information on the products and packages which suit their needs.

BT’s latest recruitment will expand the company’s involvement in the regeneration of South Tyneside, which is centered on the BT South Tyneside strategic partnership between BT and South Tyneside Council.
