Your new-look Gazette was launched yesterday – and our loyal readers couldn’t wait to get their hands on a copy.

Retired merchant seaman Matthew Reed was among the first to pick up a paper from one of our vendors in King Street, South Shields.

The 80-year-old, of the town’s Bamburgh Avenue, told sellers that the paper looked “really nice” as he flicked through its pages to catch up on all the day’s news.

Your revamped newspaper also includes a number of columns and pullouts, such as Benefits Expert with John Gordon, football supplement The Match and, of course, Cookson Country with Janis Blower.
