Khazri today put pen to paper on a four and a half year deal with the Black Cats to complete his £9million move from Bordeaux.

The attacking midfielder played alongside Saivet at Bordeaux, and admits he spoke to his former team-mate about life in the North East and Premier League before signing.

Saivet joined Newcastle earlier this month in a £4.5million deal and although he has only been in the region a fortnight, he gave it a glowing testimony.

Khazri said: “I spoke with my friend Henri Saivet who plays for Newcastle so he knows all about Sunderland, and he said it is the best league and that the people are fantastic.

“I’m very happy to play for Sunderland.

“It is amazing because I wanted to play in the Premier League; for me it is the best league in Europe so I’m very excited and I can’t wait to play games."

Tunisian international Khazri has been brought to Wearside to add some guile and spark to Sunderland's attacking play and he can't wait to show his ability, especially with some big games on the horizon.

“My qualities are technique and I’m very combative,” added the 24-year-old.

Football goes very fast and if you win two games you can move up the table.

“We now have three very important games against Manchester City, Liverpool and Manchester United.”
