Sky Sports report that Blackburn have accepted a £5.5million bid for Hanley, who is keen to join Newcastle and become the club's sixth summer signing.

United manager Rafa Benitez admitted the need for defensive recruits after Saturday's 6-0 win over Bohemian in Dublin.

Benitez said: “We are short of centre-backs. We have to manage the minutes and positions. It’s clear that we need bodies in some positions, and I think we will have someone soon.”

Norwich City had also been interested in Hanley.
