Newcastle legend Kevin Keegan to give talk at WaterAid fundraising dinner

The former Newcastle United player and manager will share his most cherished stories from his spectacular career at the Ramside Hall Hotel in Durham on Thursday February 4, 2016.

Guests will hear King Kev talk about what it was like managing the Magpies and recalling the tales that made him one of England’s favourite footballers.

All proceeds from the evening, organised by MJK Sports Events in association with Northumbrian Water and Esh Construction, will go towards the water company’s international charity partner, WaterAid.

WaterAid works in 37 countries to provide people with basic human rights – access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene education.

Speaking about the high profile guest, Northumbrian WaterAid Chairman, Andrew Blakemore, said: “We are incredibly fortunate to have one of the world’s finest sportsmen joining us at our fundraising evening. It will be an honour, listening to Kevin while raising vital money for WaterAid.”

As a player in the 1970s and 1980s, Kevin Keegan OBE has been a pivotal influence on the way football is played, managed and perceived in this country.

During his illustrious career, the sports star has won a host of trophies both here and abroad with Liverpool, Hamburg and Newcastle United.

Money raised at ‘An evening with Kevin Keegan’, will be boosted by the UK Government, who are doubling every £1 pound raised for WaterAid until Wednesday February 10, 2016 as part of the charity’s Deliver Life Campaign.

The campaign aims to reach 130,000 mums and their families around the world with safe water, saving the life of both mothers and newborns.

Andrew added: “For everyone at the Kevin Keegan event, access to clean water is as simple as turning on the tap but there are still 650 million people in the world’s poorest countries where a lack of clean water is a matter of life and death.

“That’s even more of a problem for new mums and we know that the funds we raise go to great causes and really make a difference to the people we aim to help.”

Last year, Northumbrian WaterAid raised more than £300,000 through fundraising events with the added benefit of some match funding from the UK Government.

This has helped to save nearly 20,000 lives in some of the world’s poorest communities by providing taps, toilets and hygiene education.

WaterAid also helps communities to grow by empowering them and building their skills so they can become self-sufficient, giving people hope and a future.

‘An Evening with Kevin Keegan’ will commence at 7pm and also includes a three-course dinner, tales from football’s golden era, live Q&A, comedian and auction.
