The Gazette this morning revealed that Newcastle are weighing up strengthening their defence, as well as getting in a new striker before the transfer window shuts.

And reports today in Spain claim that Newcastle are discussing a potential loan deal for Valencia left-back Lucas Orban.

The 26-year-old is an Argentina international and well known to Newcastle coach Ian Cathro who worked at Valencia as assistant to former manager Nuno.

Orban has made 12 appearances this season for Valencia, now coached by Gary Neville, and can play centre-half as well as full-back.

He joined Valencia from Bordeaux for £2.5million in 2014 but started out at River Plate.

Meanwhile, the Magpies have also been linked with a shock move for Arsenal left-back Kieran Gibbs.

The England star has started just two Premier League games this season for the Gunners, with Crystal Palace and Swansea also reported to be keeping an eye on his future.
