And the gate at 52,405-capacity St James's Park against Blackburn – who have been given 1,600 tickets – is set to exceed that figure.

Newcastle revealed on Twitter today that they had sold out the fixture against Owen Coyle's third-bottom side.

United tweeted: "Tomorrow's game against @Rovers is now sold out. Thanks for your magnificent support!"

Only five Premier League clubs – Manchester United, Arsenal, West ham United, Manchester City and Liverpool – have had higher average crowds than relegated Newcastle this season.
