Newcastle United news: Everton preview, Georginio Wijnaldum has 'no regrets', midfielder's future to be decided

Newcastle United take on Everton tonight and Georginio Wijnaldum insists he has not regrets over turning down the Toffees in the summer.

Both Newcastle and Everton were in for Wijnaldum, who cost £14.5million, in the summer.

But the Holland international chose to move to Newcastle and he insists he hasn't looked back since.

Asked if he had any regrets, having swapped a title-winning team in PSV for a relegation fight, he said: "No, not at all. Of course not.

"It's a different challenge.

"I knew at the beginning that it could also be a tough season because last year was also a tough season."

But he could still move before the end of the month as the transfer window in China doesn't close until the end of February.

Beijing Guoan and another unnamed club are understood to be interested in the 29-year-old.

"It fell through with the Chinese club, for some reason, so he's back at Newcastle," said McClaren.

I have to say that before he left, which we felt he had to for certain reasons, he had fantastic games against Arsenal and Watford."
